DESCRIPTION

An excursion to the most characteristic and traditional corners of Muscat, from the souks to the museums, to discover the true heart of the city.

WHAT WE WILL SEE

• Grand Mosque
• Royal Opera House outside photo stop
• The souk of Muttrah
• Al-Alam palace
• Exterior of the Al-Jalali fort

WHAT WE WILL DO

• We leave the port of Mina Qaboos/Hotel and head for the Grand Mosque.
• Photo Stop Royal Opera House.
• We then head to the coast to visit the souk of Muttrah, the old market, a fascinating mix of history and modernity under a magnificent 18th century merchant’s inn. Here we have the opportunity to shop.
• We leave the Muscat National Museum in front of us and head towards the Al-Alam palace which we see
from the outside. From here we can also admire the Al Mirani Fort, completed in 1587, and the Al-Jalali Fort.
The latter, which has been completely restored and also houses an Omani cultural heritage museum, is reserved or heads of state and members of royal families and is not open to the public.

What you need to know :

• The itinerary may be subject to changes.
• It is recommended to wear comfortable shoes.
• An appropriate dress code is recommended for places of worship to visit.
• To enter the mosque, it is mandatory for men and women to cover their shoulders and legs (up to their
knees) and remove their shoes.
•Dollars and Euros are accepted in the souk.
• On Friday and national holidays the Grand Mosque will be closed and the visit will be external.

Tour Plan

The tour begins with a visit to the beautiful Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque one of the largest mosques in the Middle East. Later you drive along the picturesque Corniche to the once walled district Muscat. Photo stops at the residence of his Majesty Sultan Qaboos, the Al Alam Palace, which is flanked by the 16th century Portuguese forts Mirani and Jalali. You will be strolling through Muttrah Souq, where you will be bargaining for handicrafts and silver items.
